Lip augmentation is a method of lip enhancing and lip shaping using so called fillers or self-fat. Fillers can be permanent or dissolvable substances. We do not use permanent fillers at our clinic as the possible problems could be long-lasting. Mostly we decide on dissolvable fillers, especially the substances containing hyaluronic acid (HA) by the world’s leading producers (Restylane, Juvederm). I would like to point out that there is a great range of similar products in the market made by unknown producers, the quality quite often questionable and the price low, which involves potential great risks.
PROCEDURE The procedure is done under local anaesthesia or without it, depending on the patient’s wishes. The upper and lower lip are first sculptured with a tiny needle, and then gel is added inside the lips to get the fuller lips. If necessary, the substance can be inserted into the upper lip lines.
WHO IS IT FOR?
The method is suitable for younger as well as more mature women. In young women there is quite often the problem with the lip asymmetry, or disproportion between the upper and the lower lip, or they just want the fuller look of their lips. The problems of older women could be: longer and thinner upper lip (see lip lift) as well as shorter vermilion (visible lip area) where the lip edge becomes less visible. In both cases lips could be wonderfully remodelled.
LIP AUGMENTATION POST-TREATMENT
After the procedure the patient can go home and be involved in her everyday activities. Minor swelling or bruising could be present for a couple of days. As the substances are dissolvable it is recommended to repeat the procedure after 6 – 12 – 18 months, depending on the injected substance?
LIP AUGMENTATION NOTE
Whether the patient is eligible for the procedure or if there are any risks could be assessed only after a check-up. Lesser complications which are of no consequence on the result, are rare. Serious complications are unusual.
