BOTOX FOR SLIMMER LOWER FACE AND JAWLINE (BOTOX FOR MASSETER MUSCLES) due to the hypertrophy of masseter muscle and enlargement of parotid gland (salivary gland).
Generally, the triangular face shape is characteristic for young people and with aging, the face becomes rectangular. However, many people have rectangular- shaped face even in their youth because of the hypertrophy of the masseter muscle or due to benign and diffuse enlargement of their parotid gland. This can give a face a shape of a ‘’boiled egg placed on its base’’.
Women, especially the younger ones dislike ‘’square face or ‘’square low jawline”, as it gives their face a stern, more man-like, strong and more mature look.
In the past, the only solution to the problem was surgical reduction of the lower jaw corners or cutting off masseter muscle. The procedure was risky and serious complications, that required demanding corrections, were quite frequent.
Botulinum toxin A (BTA) aka Botox, offered an elegant solution! Botox injections cause atrophy of masseter muscle (or parotid gland, if injected there as well).
By reducing the masseter muscle the lower part of the face gets tighter (becomes triangular!) and zygomatic arcade, malar bone and lower jaw line becomes prominent and more defined.
Prolonged masseter muscle atrophy can lead to remodelling and tightening of the very lower jaw (mandibular). It is about the ‘’bone-muscle-matrix’’ theory – the bones become less dense and thinner because of the inactivity.
We recommend three Botox treatments in three months. Botox is injected into several spots in the very muscle in both sides; it can be injected into the parotid gland if needed. With regular monitoring, the Botox dose can be adapted and in the same time, the muscle and the bone can be literally modified.
At the beginning, the weakness while chewing food can be noticed, and it lasts for about 2-3 months.
If recommended dosage is used, the complications are extremely rare.
